Lufthansa narrows quarterly loss

Lufthansa Group posted a smaller first quarter loss, but it was still in excess of €1 billion.  It suffered a €2.1 billion loss over the same period in 2020. Although it expects a gradual pickup in passenger traffic by the summer, it will only offer about 40% of its pre-pandemic capacity.

It expects some improvement in summer leisure travel and is hoping EU plans to allow trans-Atlantic travel for visitors from the US gets the green light.

The airline received a €9-billion bailout last year and has significantly reduced its cash burn thanks to big job cuts.
